'You are not what the world perceives you to be'
You are not what the world perceives you to be
You are not the broken heart once worn out on a chain
Shattered glass desolates on the floor
Pounding in your head
The warning sign urging you to stop
Before your soul is relinquished and you wind up dead
When you dream you are a king
Shall you never bow your head
“Friends” who chose to taunt you
Mentally perished alongside their dignity
All you want is fantasy
Till you wake up in this world
Held against your will
In spite of being happy
But it’s not about clear skin
A face sculpted to perfection
Nor the gap between your thighs
Social media; likes
A waist thinner than your will to survive
Scars you must hide
Tears falling from glazed eyes
You know you’re broken; yet you’ve no one left in to confide
How can you love someone else?
When you fail to accept yourself?
If you’ve no love left to give
These four solemn walls slowly caving in
You seek lost confidence
When all you crave is that self-reassurance
You’re not living
Barely surviving
Though the passion in your mind is thriving
These thick walls were only built to protect yourself
But all they do is exclude yourself
Your self-hate forebodes a greater danger
Though one day you will look in the mirror
Seeing past the broken glass
Realizing you’ve got so much more to offer the world
Then simply being pretty.
