Mandarin Chinese
In Modern Foreign Languages, we aim to create independent learners who are able to manipulate language and communicate successfully.
Our intent is that students are aware of their position in a modern multicultural and global society, and they develop the skills and resilience required to succeed in their chosen career paths.
Languages should be an asset to their working and personal life, and we aim to encourage students to pursue language beyond the classroom as far as possible.
At Key Stage 3, we build engagement and aim to develop a love of languages. We lay the foundations of grammar, vocabulary and phonics to ensure that students are able to experience success early in their language use.
At Key Stage 4, we aim to build on the foundations of Key Stage 3 and develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in students’ chosen language. We allow students to successfully manipulate language to respond to a variety of situations, with a constant focus on transferability of language, and building vocabulary and grammatical knowledge.
At Key Stage 5, we nurture passionate students to explore culture and history through language, enabling them to develop a high level of proficiency and preparing them for higher education and employment where their languages will prove a valuable asset.
